Labaton Keller Sucharow is proud to be recognized as “2021 Class Action Law Firm of the Year” by The National Law Journal’s Elite Trial Lawyers.  The Firm earned this prestigious award as a result of its industry-leading track record, exemplified by its groundbreaking work securing a landmark $650 settlement for a class of Illinois Facebook users.  Hailed as the largest all-cash privacy settlement in history, this front-page case was the result of Facebook’s use of facial recognition technology to extract and store user biometric identifiers without consent and as required by the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (“BIPA”).  Lead trial counsel to the class, Michael Canty noted, “As technology advances, corporations must be mindful of the privacy of their customers and importantly, comply with the law.”

The 2021 awards also recognized the Firm as a Finalist for the "Diversity Initiative Award," which honors a plaintiffs’ firm that demonstrates a concerted and successful effort to promote diversity within its organization or the profession at large.

Associate James T. Christie was honored as "Rising Star of the Plaintiffs Bar" for their critical contributions to the Firm's work representing institutional investors in complex securities fraud litigations.

Presented by The National Law Journal, the 2021 Elite Trial Lawyers awards program recognized law firms and individuals that have demonstrated exemplary performance in cutting-edge work for plaintiffs over the last year, especially with the pandemic disrupting litigation.  Honorees were announced at an awards dinner held on July 29, 2021.
