Labaton Keller Sucharow partners Michael Canty and Carol Villegas have been recognized as 2020 Plaintiffs’ Lawyers Trailblazers by the National Law Journal.  This annual list honors the lawyers who “make their mark in various aspects of legal work on the Plaintiffs’ side.”

Michael Canty serves as General Counsel, and Co-Chair of the Firm’s Consumer Cybersecurity and Data Privacy Practice Group.  Michael’s practice focuses on complex fraud cases on behalf of institutional investors and consumers.  Prior to joining Labaton Keller Sucharow, Michael served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York, where he served as the Deputy Chief of the Office’s General Crimes.  “Investigating fraud and wrongdoing always interested me, and I thought the skill set I had honed previously made for a good fit at Labaton."

Carol Villegas holds a variety of leadership positions within the Firm, including serving on the Firm's Executive Committee and serving as Co-Chair of the Firm's Women's Networking and Mentoring Initiative.  Carol’s practice focuses on prosecuting complex securities fraud cases on behalf of institutional investors.  Prior to joining Labaton Keller Sucharow, Carol served as the Assistant District Attorney in the Supreme Court Bureau for the Richmond County District Attorney's office, where she took several cases to trial.  “It was an excellent experience being in court every day, but I missed the corporate side of the practice.  Labaton was a perfect fit because we represent victims of financial fraud, including state workers, nurses and retirees."
